What it is
Tour de Parks is an on-road bicycle tour of varying distances along the beautiful paved trails and roads of Sarasota County, Florida. Tour price includes:
♦ Continental breakfast at ride start catered by
First Watch Restaurant.
♦ Rest stops along ride routes with drinks and
snacks.
♦ Mobile SAG support.
♦ Full lunch at ride's end.
♦ Commemorative t-shirt and water bottle
guaranteed for those registering early.
♦ Tour de Parks raffle ticket (value $5) with prizes including a three-day, two-night stay at Palm Island Resort; a two-night stay at the Hampton Inn; dinner at Johnny Leverock's Restaurant; and gifts from Tempo Cyclery and other local merchants.
Date & Time
Sunday, March 28, 2010. Registration opens at 7 AM.
Location
All rides start and finish at the historic Venice Train Depot, 303 East Venice Avenue, Venice, FL. From I-75, take Exit 193 and travel South on Jacaranda Blvd. Turn right onto East Venice Avenue and go 3.4 miles to road's end at the Intracoastal Waterway.
Registration
Mail-in registration fee is $35. On-line registration will be subject to a small additional processing charge. Registrations will be accepted on the day of the ride, but you must register by March 15, 2010, to guarantee your commemorative t-shirt. The first 300 entrants will also receive a water bottle. NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT MAIL IN REGISTRATION FORMS NOW SINCE WE WILL NOT RECEIVE THEM IN TIME. ON-LINE REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE UP TO MIDNIGHT FRIDAY, MARCH 26, OR YOU MAY REGISTER ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE.

Routes
Choose from three routes: 65 miles - Metric Century; 35 miles; or 15 miles. There is also a short ride/walk option for families. There are no mass starts. Tour de Parks is not a race. It is a bicycle tour on public roads and trails. Participants will be riding in normal traffic and must obey all traffic laws. All cycling participants are REQUIRED to wear an ANSI or Snell approved helmet when cycling. Headphones are not allowed.
Schedule
♦ Registration opens at 7 AM.
♦ Breakfast from 7 to 8:30 AM.
♦ 65 & 35 mile rides start at 8 AM.
♦ 15 mile ride starts 8:30 to 9 AM.
♦ Lunch 11 AM to 2 PM.
♦ All ride support ends at 2 PM.

There are a number of hotels in the Venice, Florida, area. The Hampton Inn & Suites Venice is near The Legacy Trail and Venice Train Depot. Call the local desk and mention Tour de Parks to receive a room discount.
Ride Description
Tour de Parks provides great adventure cycling along the beautiful paved trails, beaches, parks and roads of Sarasota County. The rides start at the beautifully restored, historic Venice Train Depot.
The Metric Century ride proceeds north on the Legacy rail-trail over Roberts Bay on the (brand new!) trail bridge, through parks and by historic trestles.
It continues, looping through neighborhoods, country roads, and the verdant Oak Hammock Trail in Rothenbach Park, back to the Legacy Trail then west to the beaches of Casey Key.
The ride goes south down the key, past mansions and beaches, over water to Venice Island.
There it winds through neighborhoods and along the scenic Venetian Waterway Park to return.
The shorter rides will include loops or semi-loops with much of the same scenery.
Who We Are
Friends of The Legacy Trail is a chapter of Friends of Sarasota County Parks. We are a non-profit group of local citizens promoting the rail-trails of Sarasota county. The ride is a benefit for parks and trails in Sarasota county and all proceeds go to support parks and volunteer efforts. We have 501C(3) non-profit status and all fees and donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
